Hong Kong - city of various gems
I have been in Hong Kong many times. As a matter of fact I lived 2 years there when I was very young.
Whenever I visit HK it usually means visiting family (especially my grandma) and eating great food. Going for attractions is usually secondary to me as I have been to the main ones various times.
But last time I traveled there, I was very well accompanied and we managed to explore various new gems in HK.
Bowen Road Trail
I was always at the very city-like area in HK, and never thought I would be able to find a nice trail or park to walk around away from the masses. This trail is located near Wan Chai, and it's a very nice easy walk, surrounded by green area, while still been able to appreciate the skyscrapers from afar. Many people go there for jogging. It's a perfect place to walk with good company.
Cheung Chau Island
There are various small islands located near HK, and the most famous one is probably Lantau. Probably a lot of tourists go there since there is the big budha. But for a more distinct adventure, the island of Cheung Chau is nice. It is about 1 hour ferry rice form Central Pier. This is a good place if you want to go somewhere that feels more "local", once again away from the large crowds. It has a market that sells various dried seafood (salted fish, dried shrimp) so it's a good place for souvenirs for aunties and uncles.
We had lunch there at a very simple restaurant, and we ordered a salted-fish chicken fried rice and a spaguetti fried with clams, and it was pretty cheap but high caliber in quality and deliciousness.
Tin Hau Food Square
So HK is famous for food. Many frequent to the popular areas of Tsim Sha Tsui or Central. But there is a area from Tin Hau station to Fortress Hill station (mainly via Electric Road): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_Hau_Food_Square
This street is gorgeous! It is literally a street of restaurants of all kinds, but they all look really good!
There are many things from mains to dessert, but the one that I remember the most is "Ki's Roasted Goose", ufff it's pretty darn good BBQ food:
Well this is a normal attraction in HK, but I never went there during night time, and the view of Victoria Harbor is very beautiful, definitely I can see why people say this is one of nicest harbors in the world. It can bet a bit cold during the winter time, but the view is totally worth it, especially if it's during Christmas time so you can see all the fancy lights. A great place for a date!
